What is the role of a hygienist? | Oral Hygiene Brushing and Flossing

The highly experienced and qualified hygienists at Bright Star Dental Centre work collaboratively with the dentists to provide you with exceptional dental care.

Our friendly hygiene team provide many treatment procedures and advice that will help you achieve and maintain complete oral health. Through a procedure called root planing and scaling, your Bright Star hygienist will remove plaque and tartar build-up from your tooth surface and below your gum-line, as this can lead to gingivitis and gum disease. They will also provide valuable advise on the effective brushing and flossing techniques and provide other preventive dental care treatments.

In addition to cleaning, our hygienists will examine your teeth and gums for the presence of diseases and other abnormalities such as lesions that may indicate mouth cancer. They take dental x-rays and apply cavity-preventive agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants for your children.

The relationship between your diet and oral health is another area where our hygienists can provide expert advice. They will demonstrate the importance of eating a well-balanced diet and the effect sugar and starch has on your oral health.
